Workbooklet 3.1 helps to learn three inference rules: Conjunction Introduction (known also as “Conjunction”), Conjunction Elimination (“Simplification”), and Conditional Elimination (“Modus Ponens”). Each rule is introduced on lots of examples. Common errors are identified. For each inference rule, there are numerous and varied exercises on the application of the rule as well as on its use in proofs. The difficulty of the proof exercises increases gradually from so-called baby-proof exercises to actual proof exercises. A supplementary unit 3.B is devoted to complex instances of the rules. Extra exercises provide an opportunity for more training. Solutions to all exercises are included. Workbooklet 3.1 contains Units 3.1 and 3.B from Workbook 3 Extra Full Edition. No prior knowledge of natural deduction is presupposed. Students are required to know the basics of propositional logic (Workbook 1). Logic Self-Taught Workbooklets is a daughter series of Logic Self-Taught Workbooks designed for self-teaching logic.Each Workbooklet contains only one unit (from a Workbook) together with the solutions to the exercises.
