- Consider the problems involving the following:Establishing the number of tellers and how fast they should serve customers in a bank [given the rate at which customers arrive at the bank] so as to keep the queues of customers below a given length and within the budget for the operations of the bank. The number of passport officers required to be on duty daily and the rate of processing the applications the officers should maintain [given the rate at which applications are made] so as to keep the waiting time for a passport after the date of application below a given period. The solutions to such category of optimisation problems [referred to as queueing optimisation problems] are found through queueing optimisation techniques discussed in this third edition of part 3 of the © KiUkA Books © [Operations Research (Management Science)] Series. As in the previous editions but with improvements the KiUkweli [facts-based] Approach is used in the development of the subject matter in the book. The approach focuses on the epistemological advancement of knowledge in queueing theory and emphasises data-based ORMS approach [rather than the mathematical approach] to modelling of queueing optimisation problems. Thereby a clear distinction is made between for example the concept “structural parameters of queueing systems [as numerical indices used in building the queueing optimisation frameworks]” and the rates of arrivals/rates of service [arising within facts in the queueing optimisation problems]. In all this edition of the book focuses on SPSC [single-phase single-channel] optimisation models The presentation format in the book is optimised for costs minimisation. And the writing style is deliberately chosen to make the book virtually lecture queueing theory and optimisation techniques to the reader. Whereby first [in the eBook version] we have the versatile Kindle-Create bookmarks for easy topics/tables/figures reference. Second [for both versions] the paragraphs are numbered and itemised [the lawyers’ style] for easy cross reference of concepts throughout the book, thereby eliminating the need for hyperlinks [whose use in this case would not be optimal]. Third the subject matter exposition is in such a way that the reader enjoys the knowledge and its applications without fear of numbers, mathematical formulae and figures; after all ORMS techniques deal with facts and not numbers nor figures! The content topics covered in the book are as follows: 1: FOUNDATION CONCEPTS IN QUEUEING THEORY 1.1: GENERAL NATURE OF ORMS 1.2: QUOPAMETS 1.3: QUEUEING OPTIMISATION PROBLEMS 2: EPISTEMOLOGICAL FORMATION OF QUEUEING OPTIMISATION 2.1: PROLOGUE 2.2: QUEUEING SYSTEMS IN QUOPAMETS 2.3: ANCHORING MARKOVIAN PROPERTY AND STRUCTURAL POSTULATES 2.4: KOLMOGOROV AND EQUILIBRIUM EQUATIONS 2.5: QUEUEING OPTIMISATION FRAMEWORKS 3: SP;M[M;1] OPTIMISATION FORMATIONS 3.1: SP;M[M;1] QUOPAMETS AND OPTIMISATION PROBLEMS 3.2: SP;M[M;1] OPTIMISATION FRAMEWORKS 4: OTHER SPSC OPTIMISATION FORMATIONS WITH INFINITE CALLING POPULATIONS 4.1: SP;M[M;1;c] OPTIMISATION FORMATIONS 4.2: SP;M[Ek;1] OPTIMISATION FORMATIONS 4.3: SP;M[G;1] AND SP;M[D;1] OPTIMISATION FORMATIONS 5: SP;N;M[M;1] OPTIMISATION FORMATIONS 5.1: SP;N;M[M;1] QUOPAMETS AND OPTIMISATION PROBLEMS 5.2: SP;N;M[M;1] OPTIMISATION FRAMEWORKS
