Sobre este producto
  • Written in an easy-to-read conversational style, The Calculus Toolbox is an excellent guide through the basic techniques and applications of differential and integral calculus. While the vast majority of calculus books are written by mathematicians, The Calculus Toolbox is written by a professional physicist. Gone are pages of rigorous theorem and proof; this book focuses on the how to of calculus instead of the why. Traditional calculus books introduce differential calculus and integral calculus completely separately. The Calculus Toolbox treats differentiation and integration together as reverse processes of one another. Many students learn differentiation techniques readily during a first semester calculus course then struggle mightily with the techniques of integration during a second semester calculus course. By introducing derivatives and integrals together, the student gains the confidence to achieve equal facility in differentiation and integration. This will serve the reader well in higher math courses following the calculus sequence as well as in applied science classes, engineering classes, and even classes in business. The Calculus Toolbox contains many solved practice problems, especially early on in the text. In any worthwhile endeavor, practice makes perfect -- and mathematics is no exception to this rule. Unlike traditional calculus texts written by mathematicians, The Calculus Toolbox is written primarily for those studying science, engineering, and business. There are chapters written specifically to detail applications of calculus for physicists and chemists, for example, and there is even a section for students and professionals who require the use of calculus in business. There is even a subsection written on how to write, format, and reference mathematical equations when writing laboratory reports or scientific papers. Finally, The Calculus Toolbox is written in a conversational narrative filled with humor and mirth. The mathematical formalism is extremely rigorous but the style of the text is very informal, written as if the author is casually explaining calculus to a friend.
