Traditional calculus books introduce differential calculus and integral calculus completely separately. Unlike traditional calculus texts written by mathematicians, The Calculus Toolbox is written primarily for those studying science, engineering, and business. There are chapters written specifically to detail applications of calculus for physicists and chemists, for example, and there is even a section for students and professionals who require the use of calculus in business. There is even a subsection written on how to write, format, and reference mathematical equations when writing laboratory reports or scientific papers. Finally, The Calculus Toolbox is written in a conversational narrative filled with humor and mirth. The mathematical formalism is extremely rigorous but the style of the text is very informal, written as if the author is casually explaining calculus to a friend.
